December 2010 newsletter And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:21-23. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. Luke 1:50 Our God is the promise keeping God! Not one of His mighty Words has failed. And the Promise of promises is our Lord Jesus Christ! Only because of His coming to be God With Us (Emmanuel), we now have a Savior (JESUS) to save us from our sins. Here we are 2000+ years later, still receiving His mercy, forgiveness, and salvation. We rejoice because of His coming to save us and we pray that many more will see His Mercy from generation to generation. Visit Our Site   Danny Martinez Danny Martinez (right) graduated last year, but his story started long before. Juan Martinez and Gaby came to school here and are both Chinantecos from the Vega del Sol area of the state of Oaxaca. God called them to full time ministry so they came and studied at MITC back in the 80’s. They graduated and then got married and served together in the mountains of Oaxaca as missionaries for MITC for several years. There the Lord gave them a daughter and a son. Little did they imagine that Danny, years later, would also be called by the Lord to serve in the Gospel ministry. Danny is now serving in Costa Rica, working as a missionary at a church and as a Bible teacher in a Bible Institute. So we see God’s mercy from generation to generation and His blessing going out to all the nations to save His people from their sins! Praise Emmanuel! The Lord is allowing us to see several second generation students rise up to come and prepare for the Lord’s service, following in the footsteps of their parents. It is a great joy to see God use this place to bring these young people together and start families and continue to receive and share the mercy of the Lord. December Bible Conference We had a good opportunity to “catch up” with many of our alumni and hear their testimonies of how the Lord is using them in the ministry during our December Bible Conference and Alumni Reunion. Fifty-two graduates came, many with their families, to stay for the week long teachings given by Pastors Mark Webb (Olive Branch, Mississippi) and Jim Gables (Trussville, Alabama)(left). Sixteen sessions, eight messages on First John and eight on the life of Elijah, were the themes God used in a powerful way to instruct and challenge all of us in our service to the Lord. Of course, all our present students and faculty and staff were present for the meetings, as well as many pastors and leaders from the area and also from the state of Oaxaca. This year, Pastor Jim Gables announced that this would be his last year to come for this special time of teaching after eighteen blessed and very fruitful years of ministry among us here at MITC in Mexico. We are very grateful to the Lord for brother Jim and his efforts in teaching many generations of our students. In this too, we see the “mercy of the Lord from generation to generation”. We pray the Lord will guide and bless our dear brother in the more local areas of his ministry now that international travel is becoming very difficult for him to continue. Dr. Tom Robinson Dr. Tom Robinson (Alexandria, Louisiana) continues to faithfully serve the Lord here in Mexico, leading the eye surgery team that is a tremendous blessing for so many people. Dr. Robinson was called by the Lord in 1977 to come to Mexico and serve the Lord helping people with their physical blindness. Literally hundreds of trips later and thousands of patients seen and treated, God continues to use our dear brother and his wife Daphne(right), and all those who come with him to serve. Once again, we see this special mercy and faithfulness of the Lord among us. Medical Ministry This year Drs. Brad Black (Baton Rouge, LA) and Pam Williams (both pediatric eye surgeons)(left), operated with brother Tom to help many people with their eye diseases. Cataract, Strabismus, surgeries were performed on over ninety patients. As the patients waited with their families, our students prepared and served food, preached, sang, and shared the Gospel, one on one. The children received  Bible lessons and Vacation Bible School type activities while they waited to be seen by the doctors. During this time, the mercy of the Lord was shared in Word and deed and we are grateful to be a part of this special ministry for the glory of the Lord Jesus. United Youth Choir Please be in prayer as the United Youth Choir ministers during the month of December, singing about the first coming of our Lord Jesus. There are several public concerts scheduled and there will also be preaching of the Gospel when the Choir sings. This past month, we had the first of these concerts with the Choir as Brother Tom Harrison came from Shreveport, Louisiana and preached the Word of God in the cities of Fortin, La Cumbre and El Pochote. Still, many others need to hear of the Mercy of the Promise Keeping God in His son, Christ Jesus. We are very thankful for your love, support and prayers throughout this year, as we have seen God’s mercy through each of you. May the Lord Bless and keep you for His glory. November 2010 newsletter Happy Thanksgiving! And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and began to teach them many things. Mark 6:34. Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. Mark 5:19 The compassion of our Lord is the high standard and model we must follow in all we do in this world. We must remember we are on a mission with HIM as co-laborers with Christ. We need to have compassion in our teaching, in our giving and in our relationships each day. May the Lord renew in us His love and compassion even now. Visit Our Site   Fall Bible Conference We are thankful for the time with brother and friend, Pastor Mark Engelthaler (Garland, TX), as he came and taught our Fall Bible Conference for village leaders. He spoke on the topic, “The Pursuit of a Heart for God”, a study on the life of David, who was declared to be “a man after God’s own heart”. We had around forty leaders from the Chinanteco, Mixe, and Cuicateco regions of the mountain churches. In addition to the conferences, there were also classes for these brethren with our staff in the subjects of pastoral practice, guitar, song leading and sermon preparation. The brethren traveled long distances to make it for the four day meeting. Our prayer is that God would continue to establish and use these leaders in the mountains for many years to come. Pastoral Conference Eric and Vicky are both graduates of the Bible School and have been working for the last several years in Mexico City, where Eric pastors a Baptist church in the northeast side of the metropolis. Eric brought the pastors from his association for a two day visit and pastoral conference. Teaching this conference was Danny Hernandez(left), former MITC staff member and alumni. The theme for this was “Only Scripture”, emphasizing the Bible as the only rule of faith and practice for the Christian. We are glad to see Eric’s growth and leadership that the Lord is giving him among the churches. As for Danny Hernandez, he has been on “loan” to us from Broadmoor  Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA, where he is the head of the Hispanic ministry. Danny is presently waiting on his paperwork to be approved so he can return with his family to the mission in the U.S. In the meantime, he is living here at the mission in Cordoba and helping with many special teaching projects, visiting groups and working here on the compound. Usila Also this month, Marco and Gina Barroso and Chuy and I, had the blessing of visiting the brethren in Usila(below), a town in the mountains of the state of Oaxaca, among the Chinantecos. The purpose of the trip was a weekend Bible conference for the leaders of the churches in that region. Preaching with a translator into the Chinanteco dialect and hearing choruses sung in their native tongue reminded us of the grace of God upon all nations, tribes, and tongues. We taught from Peter’s first epistle. Also during the weekend, there was a special meeting with the leaders of the area who expressed the desire to go to other villages in that mountain range where there are yet no churches. Teresa, one of our alumni from the village of Alianza attended the meetings and shared how she has started to visit a place that is a four hour hike from her own village in the mountains to share the Gospel. That is sharing with compassion. Please keep her in your prayers. Thankful for Blessings As we have shared in recent letters, the Lord has provided many opportunities here in our state of Veracruz, to help with those that lost homes and possessions due to flooding in the past months. God has moved hearts to seek to alleviate this situation and we have been able to send food, clothing, medicines, etc. to these areas. Our primary purpose is to share the love and compassion of the Lord with those in need, but the ultimate purpose is that God would use this to bring people to faith and salvation in Jesus Christ. MITC Teacher and Pastor Moises Torres(right) and members of Belen Church, have been the ones to take the supplies to areas close to Moi’s hometown. The Lord has blessed the distribution of these items and touched many hearts with His love and compassion. In the small town of Playa Maria where everything was lost in the flooding, a family has asked that services to the Lord Jesus be held in their home. Praise the Lord for His saving compassion for us! We are grateful for all the Lord is doing and how He uses each one in a special way to share His love. Thank you for your prayers, love and support, that make this possible. May His compassion be greatly manifested in our lives for His glory. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepare unto every good work.
2010-2011 School Year
		The 2010-2011 school year is well under way and we are thankful to the Lord for the students He has brought to us for training. Each of them has come professing a desire to serve God and to prepare for this by learning the Scriptures in a broader and deeper way. We have fourty-eight registered as full-time students. In the Saturday Seminary, there are forty-four adult students, aged twenty-five or older, giving us a total of ninety-two students. For these we are very grateful, but the need in the Lord's work is very great, so we continue to pray for workers for the harvest. This year, we have twelve students in their year of practice from the "full-time" program. During this forth and final year, they serve in a church or ministry assigned by the school. There, they depend upon the local church for their sustenance for daily needs. The young men sometimes are interim pastors, co-pastors or missionaries. The young ladies lead Bible classes for women and children, do visitation in the homes, and evangelism and Vacation Bible School type activities. The challenges they meet are often very big, depending on the circumstances of each work and their responsibilities. But these young people are armed with the Word of God and we pray that the Lord will empower them to His glory. This is the list of the year of practice students who have gone out this year. Please join with us as we pray for them daily: Magdalena in Acayucan, Eunice in Jalapa, Veronic Castro in Puebla, Marisol in El Pochote, Leslie in Queretaro, Gabriela in Potrero, Martha in La Fuente, Veronica Velasco in Tehuantepec, Esdras in a Hispanic work in Shreveport, LA, Mauro in El Cacique, Josue in Sta. Maria Papalo and Juvenaido in Teponapa. We are praying that they will be faithful and be good teachers to others. (Photo: Year of Practice Students)
Eber Flores
		Eber Flores (Franklin, OH) has been a group leader for several years. His construction teams have helped in construction projects on campus and in churches all over this region. This past month, he led a group of nineteen missionaries from the states of Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Nebraska and Texas. It is amazing to see how God unites these brethren as one family in the Lord, and then unites them again to our mission family when they arrive. Truly, the bond in the love of Christ is an amazing thing. Much was accomplished during their visit, as they helped with work at the La Cumbre church building and here on campus, working on the new classroom construction (about 60% is done now). The ladies helped by sewing quilts and curtains and painting. One of the brethren helped with the husbandry of our lime orchard. It was a good time of fellowship and encouragement. A special meeting was held during their visit with Gary Richardson, Eber Flores, Dick Patterson, and our twelve year in practice students. It was a time of commissioning and prayer as they receied their instructions, as well as locations of service. Dental Clinics
		The fall dental teams were a great blessing again this year, as Dr. Hilton's team came and set up clinic in the churches of Tezonapa and La Cumbre, for a week at each place. Working with pastors Carlos and Mateo respectively. The teams helped enhance the testimony given by the church in each community. The second dental team to visit us was from Woodcreek Church, led by pastor Mark Engelthaler. These brethren went to three new locations, setting up clinics and treating about fifty patients each day. Through their efforts, the love of God was shared with the people in a very powerful way. We are thankful to the Lord for these brethren who share their lives and skills with us, and partner with MITC to proclaim the Gospel message. (Photo: Woodcreek Dental Team)
In Loving Memory
		When we think of someone who has been in the grace of Jesus Christ and who committed what he learned from Christ to many others, our minds here at MITC immediately think of Pastor Bill Stowell (Shreveport, LA). Brother Bill was our mission's pastor for more than forty years and was truly a pastor's pastor. His commitment to prayer, to the Scriptures and to the love of the Lord Jesus and God's children was a great example to all of us here at MITC. For many years, he was our graduation and conference speaker. To me personally, he was a dear friend, pastor, prayer mentor and was like a loving father during many years and situations in the ministry. In God's providence, Brother Bill was taken to his eternal home on September 24, 2010. We are challenged by his life-long testimony to live and serve with greater love and dependence upon the Lord Jesus and upon His Word. May we too commit to many, many others what we have learned of the grace of God in Jesus Christ from Brother Bill. To God be the Glory for this dearly beloved in the Lord.
